Iconic Therapeutics (Atlanta, GA) is developing I-con1™, a fusion protein therapeutic invented at Yale by Drs. Alan Garen and Zhiwei Hu. While I-con1 may have utility against cancer (solid tumors) and other diseases, development has been focused on its utility in treating the wet form of age-related macular degeneration (“wet AMD”), the leading cause of blindness in the elderly. Wet AMD is characterized by the invasion of pathological blood vessels into the eye, which, together with the fluid they leak, obscure vision. Animal testing and cGMP manufacturing are complete and the Company is on track to take I-con1™ into Phase I/IIa human clinical trials in the near term.
